The Party

For Daisy's birthday we invited all the grandmas, grandpas, uncles, aunts and cousins within a 20 mile radius.  We had a lot of people around to celebrate.

Daisy cake:

Her own little "smash" cake:

First birthdays are the best.

Laughing at her cousins:

Daisy with her Raggedy Ann from Grandma:

Oh, she loves her:

We are blessed to have so many people who love our kids:

She got a Daisy Duck.  Or as I like to call her, Daisy's Duck.  It had to happen.

Oh, she loves her too:

My Daisy is such a charmer.  She was so happy and took all the attention with a smile.  She woke up the next day very "1".  My baby isn't much of a baby anymore.

And one more funny photo from the evening:
Someone really enjoyed her cake and ice cream.  :)

Fish Lake

This last week we went camping at Fish Lake.  Nick and I both enjoy camping, but with being pregnant and babies and such over the last 10 years, we just haven't made it our first priority.  We've gone on a handful of overnight trips, but we decided that this year we would make it our family trip for the summer.  Okay, so it was only two nights, so it wasn't a long trip, but a vacation all the same.  My sister and her two kids joined us, which just added to the fun.

We got to our campsite on Thursday afternoon and my sis had already set up camp complete with canopy and tarp shelter.  It's a good thing too because it poured rain later that evening.  We had little rivers running through our camp and flooding our perfect coals in the firepit.  I was a bit worried that our whole camp experience would be a soggy one, but thankfully the showers moved on and most of our gear was still dry.

A beautiful misty morning:

We spent most of Friday down at the lake.  Nick and the kids fished.  We all played in boats and in the water.  It was perfect weather.

These photos are dedicated to my good friend, Lisa:
What a beautiful world we live in.

Friday night it rained again, but we were prepared this time (or rather, my sis was prepared, she's one wise lady).  We had a tarp all set up to pull over our heat source.  It worked beautifully, as did our dutch oven pizzas.  Yum.

The rain was short-lived this time and the kids had a grand evening romping around the hills:
Ellie's really not upset, by the way.  Just pulling faces.
By the way, before going, we were a little worried about taking kids camping.  What could we do to entertain them?  Ya know what?  We didn't have to.  They were completely entertained and we never heard once that they didn't have anything to do.  I'm sure having cousins and spending time at the lake helped, but they were completely self entertaining.  Score.

Me and my dirty Daisy:

The boy was in boy paradise:

Entertainment for this little pea consisted of empty bottles, sticks, and rocks:

The kids played Glow Stick Hide n Seek for a good long while.  I think they would've been happy to play in the dark all night long.  It was a fun day.

Saturday morning we took our time eating breakfast and pulling up stakes.  It was sad to take down such a masterpiece of a campsite.  We spent the entire afternoon back at the lake.

Nick heading out to fish (with a helper):
By the way, no one caught any fish.  That's ok though.  What would we have done with it?

More boating.  More fishing.

This is perfection, right here (even with dirty camp feet):
I just don't think life gets any better than that.

Little D was so wasted.  She missed pretty much all her naps and finally crashed out:

We took several photos trying to get all the kids to look, but this one had to be my favorite (I especially like Everett and Maren's faces):

So my report of our first "big" campout as a family of 7?  It was awesome.  The kids were so happy.  I'm pretty sure they were more happy running around in the dirt than they were at Disneyland.  I loved being up in the mountains, breathing in fresh air.  So beautiful.  So quiet.  So peaceful.  No phones.  No computers.  No tv.  Just my family.  I could actually feel the stress of every day life creeping back into my brain as we drove back into our neighborhood.  No wonder when life gets crazy my first instinct is to run for the hills.  I think we'll be doing more campouts in the future.

Daisy's #1

My Daisy Baby,

One Year!  What an awesome year it has been with you!  The day of your birth will forever be one of my favorite memories.  You were the only one of my kids to have a constant heartrate throughout labor, the perfect baby from the very beginning (no pressure to keep it up, k? ;).  As #5 you are pretty good to roll with whatever craziness is going on.  You are everyone's favorite toy.  You are so happy, so sweet, so adorable, so fun, so giggly, so snuggly, so adventurous, so smart, so friendly.  We are so grateful to have you.  We all love you to pieces.

Happy Birthday, Baby Girl.

Love,
Your Momma

Independence Day

What a fun day!  We filled it from top to bottom.

First thing (6am), hot air balloons:

We then found ourselves a spot to watch the Freedom Festival Parade.  We happened to run into my niece, nephew, and friend, so they sat with us too.  This photo shows the amount of fun we were having in the hot sun, but it's the only photo I got:
The parade was hot and sweaty and sticky and the babies were especially tired, but it was good.  I had a good time, anyway.  I love a good parade, even in the hot sun.  (I obviously need a thesaurus.)  Which brings me to this:
As we were walking back to our car (my kids were surely whining about how hard life is) I came to the conclusion that from now on, I will plan activities because I will have a good time.  Yep, I'm selfish like that.  If my kids come along and happen to have a good time, well, that's a bonus.  This way, I'm not disappointed when my kids are complaining all amongst the fun things I plan for them.  I'm sure it's just the beginning, so it's a good thing I come to this conclusion before their teen years.  ;)

We picked up a pizza on the way home and after lunch and liquid refreshment, we all took naps.  Maren was serious about this business:
We spare no effort.  Kids are funny.

We all woke up feeling much happier and ready for Play Hard, Round II.  We had Nick's dad, Nick's brother, and Nick's brother's girlfriend over for dinner.  Am I being silly?  I just podded a gallon of peas, finished product.  You'd be silly too.  Anyway, we had ribs.  Mmmmm....ribs.  And ice cream:

And then we headed to park a spot for the firework show.  The kids played on the playground, we stomped on some snaps, we threw a frisbee, the kids climbed on Uncle Nate:

I had to include this sweet photo of Lainey, who took a break from the rough-housing to get some lovin':

Glow sticks provide hours of entertainment (for all):

We were joined by my nephew and niece (a different nephew and niece) as well.  Ha!  I just noticed that in the above photo, Maren is perched on Nate's shoulders under Ellie's arm there.  Funny.  Anyway, the show was great, and the best part?  It took us 10 minutes to get home.  Traffic was a breeze.  Hurray!

And, one more hurrah!  The kids did sparklers the next night:

It was the perfect way to spend a holiday!  I sure love my USA!
